28 July Dr. Lothridge says Ella must stay on back 8 weeks - no bones broken.

29 July Mary Dahm doing baking & all bread is bought. Jennie is takingcare of Ella Winship.

1 Aug Eld Josiah, Eld Anna & Deborah Knight motor to Mr. Lebanon & Pittsfield Shakers for the
Sun. day. Itis supposed .. they went on business.

3 Aug. Mary to Dr. Bedell to have abcess in ear lanced.

4 Aug Ella W. taken to Albany Hospital for x-rayf found her knee broken in 2 places. Dr.
Lothridge & Dr. Gifford put it in cast.

7 Aug Eld Anna takes Marguerite Putnam to Albany where D r. Worth gets her into a charity
hospital by getting a permit to have her eyes doctored, adenoids & tonsils removed and legs
straightened.
"Geo. Duncan had a streak of wild insanity today, caused by rotten liquor of some kind
and a fierce thirst formore. Abused Freida & Grace and other sisters most shockingly.
Run around the country trying to get whiskey, took all my cologne out of a large bottle
on my dressed'to drink and ripped & swore at everyone he met. Hugo had to settle him. "

8 Aug Eld Anna phoned for Dr. Lothridge to come & see Geo. Duncan. Gave him some medicine.
Sun Quite civil in evening, Mary still suffering greatdeal with ear.

9 Aug Excessively hot and close. Eld Anna got sick with heat and had to stay at home in p.m.
Others stringing beans at ChF. 'Eld Anna thinks of having Geo. Duncan sent away 7
thinks itunsafe to keep him."

11 Aug Ella W. slowly better but Jennie having to do all for her.

13 Aug "Geo Duncan has another drunken spell; itis almost too much to bear. The family are
awful !y worn out with it. "

14 Aug Marguerite Putnam has her operation today. Eld Caroline now accompanying Mary to
Dr. Bedell every 4 days for treatment of ear.

Mary very fead with her head all night, nearly wild with it. In to Albany for treatment.

Mary has been staying at Eld Caroline's at night so her ear can be treated.

Geo. Duncan able to attend duties, seems alright again.
No baking being done, all bread & cake bought for the last 2 weeks.

24 Aug "Ella Winship quite peevish and helpless."

26 Aug Word arrives in Eld Anna's mail that2 Canterbury sisters will arrive on day boat at 7 p.m.
from N.Y. Pennsylvania Hotel where they have been selling fancy goods. Will stay over
night. So Hugo and Eld Anna went to Albany to meet them - Llll/arlPheJps & Eva Wolcott.

28 Aug Packed my trunk to go on ahead of me on visit to Ohio.

30 Aug Took trunk to Albany and shipped.
