Hooper, aged 78, who also is very feeble, went to the South Family for the
same reason and was joined by Sister Bartlett, aged 66, as companion.
Some of the buildings which the county has planned to raze are more than
a hundred years old.. One was erected in 1818.. The county now has a caretaker
on the farm, as well as half .a dozen aged men from the alms house, who look
after the county's herd of cattle and small flock of sheep. The county has
erected some expensive split-rail fences and has some fields of corn and po-
tatoes, but otherwise has done nothing with the property, in which upward of
$200,000 of the taxpayers' money is tied up.
