visit, and the Ann Buckingham journals of the CF say that on May
15, Elder Giles Avery of the Lebanon Ministry also went to Phil,
"to help our missionaries." On May 14, DAB says that "letters
received from the Phil, mission are very encouraging. Quite a
number added to the little band of colored Believers." On May 22,
he notes the return of the Phil. mission and notes "quite an
awakening among the colored people in that city. Some 12 souls
already in the faith. Rebecca Jackson at their head." Inm
July, Chauncey Dibble, Eldress Elizabeth Harrison and Sarah Van
Wyck of WF went to Phil, to meet Eldress Pauylina who was still
there. In December, George Albert Lomas went to Phil, "to visit
the y oung Believers," and Eldress Paulina went "to her colored
sisters" from Dec. 4 to the 17th.
From 1872 on, Eldress Paulina, accompanied by one sister or an-
other, visited Philadelphia every year for at least two weeks
until 1882 when it was noted that it was "for the last time."
She was then 76 years old and she died in 1884. But Eldress Al-
vira Conklin immediately took up this mission and visited them
for 3 weeks in 1883; Rebecca Jackson, Harriet Jones and an-
other sister from Phil. visited the WF that year for 3 weeks
in August & Sept.; and Harriet returned on Oct. 25 to live
at the WF.
George Lomas visited Phil, again in 1873, Ozias Bogart of SF
in October 1876 and Elder Galen Richmond of SF in Dec. 1876,
In Sept. 1876 the SF Journal (VB-312) records that Elizabeth
Swan and " a man, Shaw," visit from Phila., in Aug. 1886, Isaac
relates that "William James, Rebecca Jackson and two friends were
here from Phila., and in Aug. 1889 the SF Journal (VB-352)
records that "colored Williamis here from Phil, on a visit."
These are the only recordings of men involved in this mission.
On Aug. 31, 1877, Hattie Walden, identified as a Jewish sister,
and Elizabeth Swan arrived from Phil, on a visit. When they
returned home on Sept. 20th, the WF sent with Hattie a girl,
Emily Kennedy, anbout 14 years, whom they had taken in for the
second time. However, Emily started a fire on a stand in Rachel
McDonald's room "which might have burned down the shop if it had
not been discovered in time" and the WF no longer wanted her
around. Don't know why they didn't send Emily back where she
came f rom.
The last recorded visit to Phil, is in March 1896 when Eldress
Alvira returned, and on May 25, four of the Phil, sisters came
to Watervliet to live - Rebecca (Perot), Leah Collins, Alice
Sharp and ?
The last WF Journal found ends in 1896. Eldress Alvira died
