2 Jan Shubel went to Albany and bought a clock for Jere-
miah for $13.
4 Jan (Sab) "Read Bro. Gile's Journal in afternoon. It gives a
very brief description of some fossil bones of mam-
moth size found at Pleasant Hill in Ky. in a swamp
about 3 1/2 miles from the village. The bones of the
head measured just 3 ft. between the eyes and the skull
from the top to the point of the nose 5 ft. in length,
the tusks 16 ft. in length and 9 1/2 in diameter at the
base... and the socket or flange bone of the hip
measured 3 ft. from point to point, the molar tooth
measured 8 in. across the face and the whole length
about 10 in. The animal was over 20 ft. long and 14 ft
in height..."
