23 Sept Dr. Packson and Dr. Buckwater, "as they style each
other," startled off for Lebanon but got word from
there not to come so they went to Philadelphia.
24 Sept Catharine Fry "the first grown up or old woman ever as
yet taken in this family, taken in today." 62 years
27 Sept Eldress Paulina gone "to her beloved darkies" in Phil-
adelphia. Returned Oct. 14.
29 Sept Franz Schweiker gone to his folks in Germany.
Took in William Hoyt, 26 years old.
9 Oct Mary Ann Proctor, now Smith, on a visit for a few days.
26 Oct "Mathew Messner turned to his vomit; a good worker but
not all right otherwise."
11 Nov Got a letter from North Union about M. Messner, He is
sorry about leaving.
24 Nov. Helmus Pier who worked "for SF on their farm near
Morrisville, was killed coming from Albany on Sand
Creek Road probably by being intoxicated and horses
running with 3 wheels nob robled."
25 Nov "Thanksgiving today but we had no meeting till eve
for which we were reprimanded by our ministry.11
15 Feb Alvira Conklin and Mary Ann Mathews to Crescent "to
find out Mary Ann's pedigree."
8 Mar Charlotte andn Lucy Werner, "never satisfied here,"
went off with their brother.
17 Mar A man from near Schenectady brought his boy and girl
here to live but they would not stay.
4 May Franz Muller came here to live. 15 years old but small.*
10 May Hester Crandle went to Tribes Hill to see her father
with her sister Eliza who has been here over a fort-
night. Returned 12th.
22 May Franz Muller "set out."
23 May William Hoyt turned away. Here 8 months, handy but
unsteady.
31 May Sarah Drumm went on a missionary tour to Berne.
4 June Sarah Drumm home "but did not get her wish."
9 June Eldress Paulina to Albany with 2 black girls brought
here to live by Catharine Blake.
Anna Wolf came here to live. 12 years old.
29 June Aaron Sonenburg, Sarah Drumm & daughter, and Deborah
Knight have painted all the windows in the brick and
boys' shops and 3 wagons.
2 July President Garfield shot in arm & body. Bullet stays
in body.
4 July Sisters have a picnic at CF. 3 of our men work, the
rest take holiday.
9 July "Philip Motz who for years hankered for the world,
went to it today." 73 years old
14 July Lizzie Alexandry came as a candidate from Philadelphia
