30 Aug RebeccaJackson here about 4 weeks. Started for home in
Philadelphia.
9 Sept Mary Ann Mathews, Ann Reynjpolds and Deborah Knight have
been going to Wes^t Troy with pot cheese every week.
Today is the last; they now have enough money fizfor a
sewing machine.
19 Sept President Garfield died from his bullet wound.
7 Oct Adolf Rieman, here about 4 1/2 years, left and so did
Lizzie Alexandry, here 2 months.
10 Oct Sisters washed without a helper except to press and
hoist the clothes.
7 Nov Peter Smith begins to help the sisters with laundry
since Adolf left.
Franz Muller begins to go to school.
9 Nov Ministry came to Watervliet.
11 Nov Three of the elders "went to Ministry Shop to see them
according to the rule."
22 Nov A candidate, Charles Joselyn, came.
25 Nov Eldress Polly Reed of Ministry died; Harriet Bullard
went to Lebanon to take her place; Rosetta Hendrickson
appointed Eldress at SF in herplace, and Anna Case is
Elder Sister.
1 Dec Charles Joselyn,$( 32 years old, "set out."
19 Dec Peter Smith "partially laid up from a steer kick."
Charles Joselyn takes care of cows.
24 Dec Peter's knee has a bunch as large as a fist. Laid up
3 weeks. With Chas. Joselyn now have 10 brethren,
which 25 years ago was 47; now2 22 sisters, then 50.
"The decrease is very great and the order and integrity
I fear corresponds with it. We need aid from on high
exceedingly."
