"Letters read in evening from Kentucky stating theirsawmill, gristmill &
woolen factory had been burnt to the ground by a band of desperadoes known
as the klu klux klan."
24 Sept. South Family's dry kiln burnt to the ground. With difficulty, the woodshed
and dwelling house were saved,
21 Nov. Elder Jeremiah informed the family that the long continued custom of rising
at 4 in the morning and eating bread and water for supper is to be discontinued.
It is now apparent that public meetings in the Meeting House at the Church Family are discontinued
about the middle of October and not opened until tnear the end of May. 'Services are held in the
families by themselves with occasional visitors from the other families.
The boys' school begins about the middle of November and closes the middle of March.
The girls' school begins about the middle of May and closes the middle of August.

17 July "Elder Ausrm came up this morning with the sorrowful tidings ofthe death of
Maria Treadway, who in a fit of derangement, between the hours of 4 and 5
this morning started for the pond, jumped in, and so put an end to her existence."
30 Aug. Elder Daniel Hawkins and James Harris ("an idiot brother")visiting from the
South Family of Mt. Lebanon.
Fri., Sept. 17 Meeting. Some papers from ministry relative to the Barbour Case which has
been pending in court for2-3 months. Sarah Ann Barbour, formerly a member
of the North Family at Mt. Lebanon, left there in June... She has a little
girl living atthe first order that she wishes to get. Having bound her to
Benjamin Gates she cannot force the child away and so went to law to have it
settled. The court has not yet decided.
20 Nov. Isaac (Anstatt) went to Albany to get a license for teaching school.
