26 Nov. Elder Albert retires from editorship (of Shaker paper) and Elder Frederick Evans
becomes editor.
10 Dec. Alexander & Isaac from our place, Elder Albert, Ozias Turney and Henry Holllster
went to Cohoes this morning for the purpose of digging up the remains of Edward
Powers, to bury him in ourgraveyard. The body so decomposed and srnelt so
badly, they returned home without accomplishing their object.
Jane Sicker has come to be a Shaker.
14 Dec. Hired men drawing home the corn Alexander has bought lately--2,000 bushels--
not really needed. Alexander partiallyinsane and Isaac goes to town with him
today tohelp him some about his business affairs, as he is notsuitable to go alone.
16 Dec. Elder Giles came today from Lebanon. Will stay till Alexander gets better, or
tillhe can have a chance to see into his business affairs. Isaac has to be with
Alexander so Josiah Barker keeps school.
18 Dec. No school -- Isaac helping Elder Giles straighten up Alexander's accounts.
Alexander almost raving this afternoon--determined to go to Albany.
22 Dec. Alexander improving in his mind.
24 Dec. Dr. Wade to see Alexander.
Xmas, Dec. 25 Dr. Wade to see Alexander. He is much worse, was attacked with a spasm or
fit about 11 o'clock. A couple of brethren have to hold him with all their
strength,
26 Dec. Alexander still in spasms, heartrending to witness. He has been much worse
since taking Dr. Wade's medicine.
28 Dec. Alexander much worse. Dr. Wade here--gave him some powders to quiet him --
has been insensible ever since.
29 Dec. Alexander Youngs died 5:40 a.m.--56 years, 6 months, 20 days/t; j - ^ rf*/^

6 Jan. Sisters do clothes washing by themselves--no help from brethren. Isaac gone
to Schenectady,
9 Jan. Both they and South Family received $300 each from Hancock and a tub of
butter; also butter and maple molasses from Enfield, Ct.
8 Feb. "Lieut* Governor of Albany, a couple of Senators and their wives drove up
about dinner time, took dinner here, walk around some and went away evidently
well pleased with their visit."
Jane Sicker says she has come to be a Shaker.
12 Apr. Jane Sicker has been to Albany to get some of her clpthes, is atSouth Family.
16 Apr. Jane Sicker goes back to Albany to live. Some slanderous reports from a male
source circulating about her, perhaps true and perhaps not.
8 June Practicing a new drill inchain march (for exercise after singing); square order
or step manner will be discontinued.
24 June South Family raising their new barn; Isaac and 11 hired men go down to assist.'
1 July Start raising their own barn. "No hands wanted but those belonging to our
family."
3 July Finished raising the barn.
Sua/July 6 Someone counted 5V3 spectators at public meeting.
31 July Finish slating roof ofbarn, put some hay in.
11 Oct. A woman named Minnie Merton visiting. She has started a paper called the
"Rainbow." Itis forthe cause of women's rights.
12 Oct. Minnie spoke at meeting, asked prayers of Brethren and Sisters for her.
