12 July Fearful thunderstorm. Lightning struck the house of Mike Rete on the Albany
Road and killed his 17 yr. old son.
13 July Found today that during the storm yesterday, the Office at 2d Order (North
Family) was struck by lightning and "torn from garret to cellar. Sister Cafry
Ferguson and the girl that helps here were both knocked to the floor by the
shock, but were not seriously injured."
20 July Put up 20 doz cans string beans (These were "string" beans and the day
