23 Feb. Move hired men out of their house to "sizing room in brethren's shop. Their
house to be torn down and brick & stone to be used In repairs to T of dwelling
house.
25 Feb.-26 Storms, ice and wind. Men postpone work on buildings. A cow man fell and
hurt himself. Dr. Lothridge came to see him. When Elder Isaac went to get
bandages and doctor, he fell and hurt his left eye badly.
8 March Dr. Wade died today.
11 Mar. Elders and eldresses all goto Dr. Wade's funeral ,
16 Mar. Church Family's saw mil! caught fire about 4 p.m. from sparks frorrvenglne used
and was totally destroyed.
On Oct. 28, 1885, entry was "Dr. Wade here to see John Decker, he is
quite lame with rheumatism." As you will note, Dr. Wade died on March 8,
1886. There had been increasing notations of visitors to John Decker from the
other families (a good indication that everyone considered his illness serious
and possibly fatal, and now
16 March John Decker dies -aged 72 yrs. , 1 1 mon.
25 Mar. Ida Weingarten, 12 years old, is taken back to her folks in Green Island.
"An old man, " August Grullick comes, he is 68 years old and wants a home. "
Elder Isaac sends him tothe Lebanon Shakers.
Have had men employed tearing down the T-part of the dwelling completely.

3 April All teams busy drawing stone from Niskayuna for the'cellarof the new part of
the house. The men "on the out farms" all help with their.teams also.
8 April Masons from Albany start laying foundation.
12 Apr.-13 Elder Isaac directing hired men in digging and tiling a drain from the house.
Difficult because it is through quick sand which caves in as fast as dug out so
have to put in one tile ata time.
23 Apr. Has been difficult to get masons to work at Shakers because of strikesin Albany
and "the Knights of Labor trouble."
26 Apr. A hired man "goes to the Centre and brings the masons and carpenters to work
on the building' - 10 in all.
18 May Girls' school starts today - 26 pupils, teacher is LottieWerner.
20 May Beginjf putting up beams of new addition to house.
27 May Trip to Albany to get school books, on to West Troy on horse cars to get
certificate from school commissioners for Lottie.
28 May Painters begin to paint new part of house.
9 June Lathers begin work inside new part of house.
17 June Heavy shower "washes the paint off from the house considerable." l
29 June Mary Ann Mathews "goes to seek a home in the world a second time. 11
Tillie (Matilda)Quintal , age 14 years, who was taken away by her parents
in February, by their consent comes back with Eldress Alvira to live here again.
30 June Walls all hard finish plastered in new part.
4 Julyth was Sabbath, so on
5 July' All went into north woods for a picnic with cake, tee cream, etc.
Have had larger windows put in dining hall and in cook & bake room, now
have piazzas put on dwelling, one in front& one on north "forthe use of
the dairy and the cooks. "
