47 22 Jan 1887 I go with C. Miller to Albany to have Josiah Barker take the P.O.
in Chauncy's place.
29 Jan Go to Morrisville with C. Miller & Josiah Barker to sign papers as
bondsman and he is now made postmaster at "Shaker11 in Chauncy's
place.
30 Jan Meeting at/ home. Much spirit manifested. Elder Charles & Josiah,
Eldress Lydia & Mary here in the afternoon, attend signing meeting.
48 5 Feb Cut wood & drawed tomatoes to Albany. Zero.
12 Feb Cut wood. I go before the Surrogate to make application to have
v/Abial Hathaway's will probated. Cold.
49 21 Feb VanWormer & Sons commence to mflgle the boys' shop. 7 men come. We
intend to take the shop into the north sand lot and make a tenant
house of it. They are to move it for $150. We to board the men -
cheap enough.
25 Feb /ftehemiah White of ChF died today - dropsy the cause.
Draw stones. Six above zero.
49 26 Feb It was so stormy the men had to stop moving at noon. Elder Charles
Brackett of the ChF died at 9:30 pm. Snows & blows.
27 Feb We attend to Elder Charles & Nehemiah's funeral. Elder Charles will
not be buried until tomorrow. It was a very solemn scene. We go to
attend Nehemiah's funeral and find two corpses laid side by side.
Elder Charles has been sick only a week - died of pnetmonia. C. Millwar
starts this afternoon for Illinois farm.
50 28 Feb Elder Charles Brackett was buried at 2 p.m. Men moving house.
Draw stone.
8 Mar Shovel snow. Fair. H. W. Beecher died 9:30 a.m.
9 Mar Van Wormer & Sons finish moving shop & return. Send 3 teams down
with timbers, etc. South wind.
51 19 Mar Cut posts. James I. McDonald from Chicago here to see Rachel.
24 Mar Trim apple trees. Went to Albany with the sleigh for the last time
this season.
52 10 Apr Meeting at the ChF. Sing at the SF. Henry George taken back to
the South House.
53 22 Apr ^Lavina Salisbury died last night at 12 pm at the ChF. Draw stones.
23 Apr Attend Sister Lavina's funeral at 2 p. Did not dare to keep her
longer as mortification had set in.
54 12 MAY Plow. Make a chicken yard. ^One family at Groveland broke up. Marcia
Hillsgrove comes to the ChF, James Goodwin & Abigail Grossman go to
Lebanon. Groveland $14,000 in deb^t
55 24 Apr* Draw manure for beets. Eldress Alvira & Sister Rachel to Albany
trading. Summer school commences - Marcia Hillsgrove teacher.
