16 Nov The sisters begin to card tow in the "great spin room."
20 Nov Finish carding tow in evening.
1 Dec Brethren kill 17 hogs and 5 shoats. Have 492 Ibs. I ink meat.

4 Jan The coldest day we have had.

7 Jan "Very warm indeed for the season. The snow goes off upon the
full gallop; great damage done to the RiverFarm by the ice
damming up the river so that it overflowed to the hill above
Witbecks and the ice took off a great part of the fence. The
Island was all under water to the top of the little shanty. The
brethren went to Witbecks in a boat or to the foot of the hill."

27 Jan A kitchen set up in the Second House in the old dairy rooms
for all the'children to eat. Moriah (Gillet) and Abby (Messenger)
to take the burden.

10 Feb I have knit 1 doz. of work bags for sale and 2 over.

18 May "Great day among us. Moriah Gi I let & Abby M. resigned their
commission among the girls and come into the meeting room to
live. Jennet Angus & Matilda Wells take their place. Lucy
Fuller took Jennet's place in physician's line & Elizabeth took
Lucy's at the washhouse. Nancy White went to the Office kitchen
to work and that is not all. Mercy Harwood & Caroline Downs
went in the North Chamber to live and Almira T. & Ephraim P. went
down into the meeting room to live. Some more - Sylvester P.
went into the NOrth Chamber to live."

7 Aug Sarah Ogden's mother came to see her with a constable and a
young man to take her. (In the following weeks, Sarah's case
was in court, with the elders going to Albany, but Sarah con-
tinuing her regular life with the Shakers.)

7 Jan "This day we all in silence keep, and are very still with
walking with our feet."

1 Feb "The brethren watch all night on account of danger."

2 Feb "The whole family watch till 12 o'clock and the brethren all
night; At 12 in the evening, the Brethren & Sisters assembled
together and shouted several times & then sung a song of victory
and kneeled & returned thanks to God for our protection from the
hands of the wicked, for they were at that time plotting evil
against the Believers to destroy them."

21 Feb Francis Goodrich came out of Deacon's Order & Daniel Sherman
went in to live with Wm. Yearsley. Zeviah Spier out of Deacon-

25 Feb "This evening while we were in silence attending to some read-
ing, we were disturbed with a sound of a drum which proved to
be a number of ruffians, 22 in number, who had got into our door-
yard, then made use of their drum & other music to frighten &
disturb us. Finding they were followed up by the Brethren, they
w i thdrew . "
