17 Dec "My poor little chickens is sick."
18 Dec "All hands stayed at home. It is very cold. We have much to be thankful

23 Dec Philip bought 5 gal. of oysters for the family and Nehemiah bought 15 Ibs.
of crackers.
24 Dec Eldress Ann helped Samantha cut some needle books.
25 Dec "It is Christmas day. All work is laid aside."
Almira Watkins died about 9 p.m.
31 Dec Polly Owens sent some New Year, cakes to the family.

1 Jan Sylvester Prentiss has been making a desk for the Office and it was moved
into the front room today for a New Year's present.
4 Jan "Eliza Haynes made up her mind to leave the Shakers, took the cars for Buffalo
to her mother."
27 Jan A relative of the Buckinghams named Isabelle DeVelling is visiting. Was at
2d Family, came to CF for a few days. "Has a pet squirrel for a companion."
8 Feb GGopley and Philip (Smith) go to Albany to take something to the poor accor-
ding to Mayor Judson's request.
12 Feb Abbie goes to infirmary.
17 Feb Abbie still in infirmary, Samantha is-.sick and goes to infirmary on 18th.
22 Feb Samantha out of infirmary.

23 Feb M. Gillet and Matilda into infirmary.
24 Feb Abbie much sicker, Jannet sends for Dr. Wade.
25 Feb Doctor comes. Matilda and Abbie both very sick, Jannetv, takes sick today.

26 Feb Doctor comes again. Mary Nelson comes to nurse. Caty Maria gets sick - in
old meeting room.
27 Feb Samantha has neuralgia very bad in her head.
Caroline Downs is taken quite sick. (She apparently is usually the nurse.)
28 Feb Doctor gives Samantha quinine and Dover powders and she goes back to infir-
mary. Adelaide comes to do her work (in Office).
1 Mar Abbie & Matilda still quite sick. Eldress Lydia goes to infirmary to take
Caroline ' s place .
3 Mar GMiller home from Illinois and begins "to attend the sick very faithfully."
Abbie fails and we ha)|ve but little hopes of her."
4 Mar They have to have someone stay at night with Abbie and Matilda.

5 Mar Omit meetings today because of sickness. Stanton also quite sick.
Sun "It is very hard for the sisters. The 2d Family is going to wash the bro-
thers' shirts for there is nobody to wash."
6 Mar Abbie is worse, Jannet and Samantha better.
7 Mar "The docytor comes today, is disappointed to find Abbie so much better as
he has some hopes of her recovery. '
8 Mar Abbie much worse, cannot speak. "They get her on her bed and she never got
off of it."
9 Mar Abbie still 'breathing. They do not give her a long time. Dies at 4:15 pm.
10 Mar G. Brackett and Sylvester (Prentiss) make Abbie' s coffin. "They get it made
and put her in it today." Samantha is much better, rest quite sick.
11 Mar Yesterday Eldress Lydia and Ruth packed up Abbie 's things at the Office and
sent them to the Deaconesses' shop. Samantha returns to Office.
12 Mar Funeral. The families came, have a very good funeral.
Betsey Hawkins failing very fast.
14"Mar Betsey Hawkins died. 86 years old.
16 Mar Betsey Hawkins fune/ral. '"Some from all the families to pay their
tribute to the respected friend."
22 Mar Ministry sent for Ruth and Samantha to speak about Adelaide's coming to the
Office to live to take Abbie 's place. Adelaide moved on 27th.
(Sisters in Office are now Adelaide and Barbara, Samantha and Julia.)
18 Apr Philip got yoke of oxen for $160.
22 Apr A gentleman from Brazil came to look at baskets. Placed .an oifclerand wanted
them very quickly. GG took them to Albany to ship on April 26th. Received
$248.50 for them.
16 May "Samantha set a hen on some duck eggs."
19 May G. Horton died this a.m. at SF.
25 May Julia & Samantha went to see Sar.ah Ann Male. She has ague dlnu her face.
Sundays Ghauncy Dibble addressed the spectators on June 4, 11, & 18. Usually Albert
Lomas does .
12 June "My ducks hatched today." (From .this, it is evident that Samantha is author.)
13 June Young sisters begin painting dwelling house windows, Elder Austin has puttied
them.
20 June Samantha went to 2d Order and got a kitten.
Samantha is painting Ministry Shop windows.
23 June Sold 36 lambs.
29 June Setting out cabbage on Island. (Not broom corn)

3 July Alvira from 2d Family came and invited CF to have a picnic on 4th.
4 July "The family generally stopped work and went to picnic. We have dinner in
the woods. SF make some ice cream. We. all enjoy it very much." GC carried
them back and forth.
28 July "It is thought best by the ministry to have Elliot Mires (Ellyette Myers)
" to the SF to live with her mother." . ''.* * -. .
11 Aug "I do not hardly know what to write so little of anything of importance
happens. CG goes somewhere every day." .V"'.- *"
21 Aug Ruth and Samantha go to Albany and buy two ice cream freezers for $10.
25 Aug Gut corn for drying, grind apples for cider.
13 Oct "John Carson has concluded to leave the Shakers and return to Troy. He has
been here almost two years lacking two months."
23 Oct Samantha burnt her foot on Oct. 16 and finally goes to infirmary today.
Her foot is very bad.
Ruth is taking care of her chickens; Adelaide stays on in the kitchen in
her place.
1 Nov Ministry arrive home from a trip to western communities. "Eldress Ann is
quite out of health."
2 Nov Eldress Ann goes to infirmary, has chills and fever. Samantha still there.
7 Nov Samantha fiqffally back to Office and into the kitchen. Eldress Ann still
in infirmary.
12 Nov "We have no meeting today, in,;any of the families. There is quite a fire
at Niskayuna this evening. The depot and several shed burnt. Some of .our
folks went to help extinguish it."
13 Nov Philip killed the rest of the ducks. Ruth & Samantha draw them. The Min-
istry and all the deacons hold a meeting about t putting slate on the Meeting
House shed.
15 Nov Eldress Ann is quite sick.
4 Dec Eldress Ann take&i for a ride to Niskayuna along with Ann Buckingham and
Catherine Veeder.
7 Dec Eldress Ann came to Office for a visit. "She is quite feeble."
12 Dec Eldress Ann, Ruth Green and Adelaide taken to Albany to go to Mt. Lebanon.
CMiller accompanies them.
26 Dec James McNally came to see his sister Julia.

2 Jan CCopley paid the taxes - $1250.
Oliver Prentiss came to visit, walked out from Albany, very windy. He is 79.
4 Jan A Mrs. DeForrest from New Jersey, who has been corresponding with the CF,
arrived with her two girls, 10 and 5, and a boy 7.
